Sunset Storm - May 2024 - Cottesloe, Western Australia
I've been chasing a sunset lightning storm for a long time and I finally got one! Used my lightning trigger to capture the lightning, so I was just holding my umbrella.

'North Cottesloe Lightning'
For this shot I was sitting in a car with my tripod and camera outside. I opened the shutter for 20secs and a huge lightning bolt came thundering down into the ocean not far from the beach. I was using a wide angle lens, so the bolt was actually closer than it looks in this picture. The next bolt was on the other side of my car as the rain came, so that was it! One shot and one shot only. What a privlage!

'Water to the Fire'
The South West of Australia has had one of its largest bushfires. Lives have been lost. Towns have been lost. And so much of the land we love has been devastated. I took this photo while these fires were raging, with smoke darkening the sky and the sea to the south of Perth.
Nature does as it does, and its order is often not ours. As we are affected, as our beloved land is scarred, we will rebuild and help those than need help. Like the waves that roll in and roll out in a reliable way that we love, our land will heal in the same way.

This photo was taken on a very stormy day in a brief moment of sunshine, perfect for some infrared photography to bring out the texture of the crashing waves.

Rottnest Island Pine (Callitris preissii). A beautiful native conifer species and due to its structure makes a wonderful plant to photograph in infrared.

'Dune Bushes'
The late afternoon sun highlighted the tips of these dune bushes and my Infrared converted camera captured it very nicely.
